Sailing - Winches

 

Sailboat winches are used to manipulate the rigging on a boat. Some of these task may include hoisting the sails or tightening the ropes. Common places for winches are along the rails of the cockpit and the cabin.  Boats and ships make use of multiple winches. A winch will allow the sail sheet to be tightened.  The winch is very important  to sailing especially when you plan on using the wind to the fullest.
