A barometer is a scientific instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure also called a barometric  pressure, these are good for wether forecasting.   Having a barometer on board your boat will give you advance warning regarding the nature of an approaching weather system.  Barometers are very important to boat, if you are headed out to sea you should be aware of the weather at all times. A storm  has the potential to be hazardous to you and  your boat.
